Plain language summary: We collect only what's needed to plan your meals and build your grocery carts. We don't sell your data. You control what our AI sees, and you can delete everything at any time.
1. What We Collect
NutriAgent collects the following information that you provide:
- Profile information: Name, household size, weekly budget, zip code, fitness goals
- Dietary information: Allergens and severity levels, dietary preferences (vegetarian, keto, etc.), food dislikes, foods you want in your diet, ingredient sourcing preferences (organic, no dyes, no artificial flavors)
- Meal feedback: Star ratings (1-5) on meals, text feedback, recipe book notes (e.g., "liked spicier"), meal approve/skip decisions
- Grocery data: Pantry items, grocery carts, order history
- Chat messages: Conversations with the NutriAgent AI assistant (stored in session memory only — not persisted after the session ends)
2. How We Use Your Data
- Meal planning: Your preferences, allergens, and ratings are used to generate personalized meal plans
- Preference learning: Your ratings, swaps, and recipe notes build a taste profile so future plans better match your preferences. This runs primarily on-device with deterministic scoring — not per-meal LLM calls
- Grocery carts: Your pantry, allergens, and sourcing preferences are used to build safe, personalized grocery carts
- Store matching: Your zip code is used to find nearby grocery stores for pickup or delivery options
3. AI and LLM Usage
NutriAgent uses third-party AI language models (currently OpenAI) to generate meal plans, extract recipes, and power the chat assistant. When you interact with the AI:
- Your message and relevant profile context (allergens, dietary tags, ratings you've chosen to share) are sent to the AI provider to generate a response
- OpenAI's API does not use your inputs to train their models (per their API data usage policy)
- We do not send your full profile to the AI — only the context needed for your specific request
You control what the AI sees. In the Privacy tab of the app, you can toggle off sharing for: taste profile, ratings, recipe notes, swap history, and pantry data. The AI will still work but won't reference that data in its suggestions.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored in a secured database hosted on Railway (cloud infrastructure)
- All connections use HTTPS encryption
- We do not share, sell, or rent your personal data to third parties
- Chat session history is stored in server memory only and is cleared on server restart — it is not permanently stored
5. Your Rights and Controls
You have full control over your data at all times:
- View: See exactly what data we hold about you (Privacy tab → Data Inventory)
- Export: Download all your data as a JSON file at any time
- Delete selectively: Remove specific categories (taste profile, ratings, chat history, etc.) without deleting your account
- Delete account: Permanently delete your account and all associated data
- AI controls: Toggle what information the AI can access for personalization
6. Third-Party Services
- OpenAI: Powers meal planning and chat responses. Subject to OpenAI's API data usage policy
- Railway: Cloud hosting for the application and database
- Future integrations: When grocery delivery services (Instacart, DoorDash, Kroger) are integrated, your cart data and zip code will be shared with the chosen provider to fulfill your order. You will be notified before any data is shared with a new provider.
7. Children's Privacy
NutriAgent is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Health Disclaimer
NutriAgent provides meal suggestions, calorie estimates, and nutrition information for informational purposes only. This is not medical or dietary advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for nutrition guidance, especially if you have food allergies, medical conditions, or specific dietary requirements.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of NutriAgent after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
